Additionally, the room description, shows that there was a refrigerator a microwave etc that I assumed would be in the room. I cannot prove, but I believe it was a way for the desk man to make 10 euro while working.

When we checked out they refused to refund our ten euro for the keys, so on principal we kept them. The keys already had a tag with room 203 on them when he delivered them. He miraculously delivered them to our room about a minute and a half later, and said "the key shop is very close". They charged us 10 Euro to "Go have keys made". My biggest complaint was that when we checked in we wanted two sets of keys. We actually ended up using the shared shower that other people use simply because it was more convenient to use. but the hanger for the handheld shower was broken, so it was difficult to take a shower, holding the shower in one hand in the soap in the other and trying not to flood the rest of the bathroom. The place is kept relatively clean, but maintenance is very very poor. This is a budget property, so we weren't expecting a palace. You can walk for Miles through the winding streets and alleys of La Rambla and the gothic quarter. It is easily accessible to the metro, as well as the buses. This is a great location, in the heart of the tourist area. I live in Slough, so I know what a fetid hole is like. Although there was no noise from the street, there was considerable noise through the walls from other rooms and from reception where the staff member seemed to delight in having his friends in for lour conversations in the middle of the night. The shower cubicle was sized just like a coffin and one of the doors on it was stuck - because of the mould. The entrance was looks like it's for a seedy hotel where the rooms are hired by the hour - an impression that didn't change when I got inside. The staff were unfriendly and I couldn't find a language that they were coherent in. Although the location is central, it is also placed squarely in the least salubrious area of Las Ramblas - although the cannabis shops and Erotic Museum are close to hand, if that's what you're looking for. There are three good things about this hotel: (1) it's location - right on Las Ramblas, it is central to Barcelona night life and the sights (2) Air conditioning in the room was fantastic (3) No external noise - but that's because my room didn't have a window.
